The Importance Of Recycling Cardboard Boxes

Some people use things once and then discard them, never thinking that the items could be repurposed or recycled. After a move, they put their cardboard boxes and packing supplies in the trash pile for regular pickup. Doing so is not only foolish, it is detrimental to the environment. These items can often be reused and even if they are damaged, they can usually be recycled.

Each of us needs to do what we can to protect the environment for future generations. Eco-friendly practices regarding moving cartons and supplies include getting free boxes from stores or purchasing boxes that have previously been used or are made from recycled materials. Newspaper, blankets, and towels are excellent packing supplies and are alternatives to purchasing new packing paper and bubble wrap.

When the move is complete and the boxes are unpacked, there is usually a lot of moving material remaining. Boxes can be reused to store holiday decorations or extra linens. If they are damaged, they should be put out for recycling. They can also be repurposed into things like a canvas for a child’s painting projects or a puppet theater.

People move on a regular basis, so there is bound to be someone in town who could use the boxes. Individuals can post a free classified ad online or at the grocery store advertising that cardboard boxes and packing supplies are available. Any boxes that are not taken can be folded flat and saved for future storage needs.

Recycling or reusing cardboard boxes reduces the number of trees that need to be cut down to make new boxes. People feel good knowing they are helping our planet through their eco-friendly practices. It is just as easy to put that carton in the recycling bin as into the regular trash can. Think about this the next time you go to throw away a cardboard box.
